What is RFID?

RFID, short for Radio Frequency Identification, enables assets to be wirelessly identified and tracked using data transmitted via radio waves, from RFID tags. An RFID system consists of RFID tags, readers, antennas and an application software, working together to capture and manage data in real time.
RFID tags contain a microchip and small antenna and are attached to assets or products that require identification or tracking. These tags can store information such as serial number, product details, batch number and more. RFID readers and antennas are then used to wirelessly capture the information stored on the tags.
The application software stores, processes and analyses the data collected by the RFID readers. This provides businesses with real-time visibility, improved inventory management, asset tracking and actionable data to support smarter decision-making.
